Friday, Oct 18:

  • 6:15am - Meet @ the USC Village Starbucks for carpools. We will depart promptly at 6:30. Jen, Wilha, Jaden, Skylar are driving

  • 7:30am - Check in @ Southern California Marine Institute (SCMI)

  • 8am - Ferry departs, arrives 9:45am

  • 10:00am - Housing orientation (Dining Hall)

  • 11:45pm - Lunch in Dining Hall

  • 1-3:30pm - Activity: Guided snorkel & plankton tow

  • 4-5pm - Plankton Lab

  • 5-6:00pm - Break

  • 6pm - Dinner @ Wrigley Canteen

  • 7pm - Group activity, campfire, s’mores

Saturday, Oct 19: 

  • 6-7:30am - Optional Sunrise Meditation

  • 7:30am - Breakfast @ Wrigley Canteen

  • 9am-12pm - Guided hike, Deer Valley Trail (Marisa & Skyler depart for Two Harbors @ 10)

  • 12pm - Lunch

  • 1-3:15pm - Break

  • 3:15-5:45pm - Gather @ Boone Center for creative play, discussion

  • 6pm - Dinner

  • 6:30-8:30pm - Guided night snorkeling & night plankton

  • 9-9:30 - Plankton Lab

Sunday, Oct 20: 

  • 6-7:30am - Optional Blue Cavern Hike (self-guided, <1 mile, depart from Storage Yard behind Boone Center)

  • 7:30am - Breakfast @ Dining Hall

  • 8:30am - Check-out of rooms: Please complete the room checklist and store your bags in the Dining Hall. You will have limited access to your baggage. If there is anything you require before departure, please pack a small personal bag.

  • 9:15am - Gather @ Ampitheater

  • 10am - Ferry back to SCMI

  • 12pm - Lunch @ Tranis Dockside

  • 1pm - Tour of Holdfast Aquaculture

  • 3pm - Return to USC

    Packing List

    • Comfortable clothing for outdoor activities

    • Closed-toe shoes for the Miss Christi excursion

    • Appropriate attire for your planned activities: ie bathing suit (wetsuits will be provided), hiking shoes, hat

    • Personal toiletries and medications

    • Reusable water bottle

    • Sunscreen and sun protection

    • Specific items for our trip:

      • journal

      • a poem, song or other favorite work of art to share (can be yours, or something that inspires you)

      • a pair of scissors, and old fabrics that you’re willing to part with (ie clothing, towels, sheets) as materials for a group project led by Prof Mandler

      • crochet needles, if you have them!
